This thesis explores the evolution of New Media Art, examining its founding principles, the relationship between art and technology, and the processes of digital transcoding that define its essence. Through a trajectory that begins with the discipline’s origins, it analyses the new paradigms characterising contemporary digital art — among them the role of screens as thresholds, time as flow, the invisible actor, and the place of the body within the work.

A specific focus is devoted to the synergy between performance and virtual reality, which gives rise to a hybrid and interactive artistic ecosystem. In its final section, the theoretical analysis takes concrete form in the development of the project itArts. Italy for Arts: Resource, Time and Space. The aim of the research is to understand how new media redefine the artistic experience, and how hybrid experimentation may open new perspectives in the relationship between art, technology and audience.
